Knowing that the design element was what Scott enjoyed most about the building industry he undertook the National Diploma in Architectural Technology and later became a Licenced Building Practitioner. Prior to moving into design, Scott worked as a carpenter’s apprentice, giving him a greater appreciation of what it takes to turn an idea into reality.
Having worked for some great design firms in Tauranga, Scott also enjoyed a few years in Cardiff, Wales working on designing and building a range of secondary schools throughout the United Kingdom.
Scott and Karen then decided to fulfil their ambitions of creating their own company, establishing Ambience Architecture in 2012. Having their own business has allowed them the creative freedom to produce work they feel passionate about, resulting in lasting relationships with both clients and builders.
Scott has a real understanding of the mechanics behind a building, particularly the technical and practical side of what good residential design needs to incorporate. Builders that work with Scott appreciate the attention to detail he puts into plans which means they don’t have to down tools to question the design and can get on with their work, saving the client time and money.
Every project becomes a passion to give clients a home they will love! Scott and Karen only take on a certain number of projects at a time and believe in staying engaged with the client throughout the whole project.
For Scott, winding down involves the whole family, kicking or throwing a ball around with his two boys, tramping and cruising on his motorbike.
"Working with Scott from Ambience Architecture on numerous design and build projects, we have formed a strong relationship. Being able to work in with Scott, the clients have a huge advantage utilising years of combined experience. Scott's judgement of character and understanding of a client’s requirements is second to none. This is a very valuable attribute to have, especially while designing your largest investments."
"These are some of the best plans I have seen in terms of designing to the section and quality of info. Happy to grant dispensation on front door not visible from street because overall look is so good."
"Scott from Ambience Architecture designed our home in Northland in 2012. As the builder, I was impressed with the level of detail in Scott's designs, and having peace of mind in knowing all documentation and design were well thought through before breaking ground made the build process very efficient. Scott has recently designed an outdoor portico for our current home in Hamilton, and we will look for his guidance on our next design and build in the not so distant future."
"Scott took the time to clearly understand what we wanted to achieve with our build and then worked to understand and communicate how this could be achieved on our difficult section – and budget - through a strong, collaborative process. His clear vision, bold features and engaging design would become a stunning “forever home”. Scott’s clear and detailed plans aided a smooth build that he remained involved in throughout, forging a strong partnership with our build team. His commitment to our home exceeded our expectations at every stage – briefing, design and build – and we would highly recommend you get in touch with Scott to design your own “forever home”
"I can’t recommend Scott Rowe from ambience architecture enough. He took an idea from my head and created a wonderful home for us. Scott’s detailing is incredible and so well documented. We had no queries from council during building consent and only one query from builders on site. Scott was so easy to work with and his communication brilliant, we are both in the building industry and wanted a very specific outcome. Thank you Scott, for the wonderful job you did on our house we love it!"
